Lupita Nyong’o is a Kenyan-Mexican actress, film director, and author. She was born on March 1, 1983, in Mexico City, Mexico, and raised in Kenya.
Nyong’o rose to international prominence for her role as Patsey in the 2013 film “12 Years a Slave”, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. This made her the first Kenyan and Mexican actress to win an Academy Award. Since then, she has appeared in several other films, including “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015), “Queen of Katwe” (2016), “Black Panther” (2018), and “Us” (2019).
In addition to her acting career, Nyong’o is also known for her work as a cultural advocate and her activism on issues related to women’s rights and representation in the media. She has been named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, and in 2014, she was named by People magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.
Nyong’o is also the author of the children’s book “Sulwe” (2019), which is inspired by her experiences growing up and teaches children about colorism and self-esteem.
