Bernard Lagat is a Kenyan-American middle and long-distance runner. He was born on December 12, 1974, in Kapsabet, Kenya. Lagat is considered one of the greatest middle-distance runners of all time, and has won numerous medals and accolades for his athletic achievements.
He began his professional running career in Kenya, where he won several national titles and represented Kenya in international competitions. In 2004, Lagat became a citizen of the United States and began representing his adopted country in international competitions.
Lagat has won multiple medals in the World Championships and the World Indoor Championships, including gold medals in both events. He has also won gold medals at the Pan American Games and the Commonwealth Games, and is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won a bronze medal in the 1500m at the 2004 Summer Olympics and a silver medal in the 5000m at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Aside from his success in international competitions, Lagat holds several American records in middle-distance events, including the indoor mile and the 1500m. He has also been named USATF Indoor Athlete of the Year several times, and was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2018.
